Resources Safety and Health Matters video series launched

Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health Kate du Preez said the Resources Safety and Health Matters video series intended to provide in-depth discussions on contemporary safety and health issues which affect Queensland’s resources sector.

“One of the key components of an effective safety and health culture is sharing information,” Kate said.

“This video series is intended to do just that and forthcoming videos will include discussions with academics, on-the-ground safety experts and more relating to safety and health in the resources sector.

“Our first video features Professor Alex Haslam from The University of Queensland's School of Psychology and Susan Johnston from The University of Queensland's Sustainable Minerals Institute discussing the relationship between high reliability organisations and leadership.

“Adopting the principles of high reliability organisations in the mining industry was one of the key recommendations from Dr Sean Brady’s Review of all fatal accidents in Queensland mines and quarries from 2000 to 2019.

“Professor Haslam provides insight into how leadership can affect an organisation and what leaders can do to facilitate the adoption of the characteristics of high reliability organisations.”
