Becoming a high reliability organisation – Resources Safety and Health Matters video series

06 October 2021

Many organisations in the Queensland resources industry are currently considering the question: How does an organisation become a high reliability organisation (HRO)?

Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health Kate du Preez said a new video in the Resources Safety and Health Matters series seeks to explore some of the questions organisations may have as they continue on their journey towards becoming more highly reliable.

“The video, which features Professor Jolanda Jetten from The University of Queensland's School of Psychology and Susan Johnston from The University of Queensland's Sustainable Minerals Institute, discusses many of the processes organisations must consider when implementing HRO principles in their workplaces,” Kate said.

“Professor Jetten discusses the importance of conducting a baseline analysis, and the how to go about that conducting that analysis, and the need for mapping the organisational safety culture in order to navigate the journey to high reliability.

“The video is intended to facilitate discussions regarding HRO principles and I am sure that any organisation currently going through a HRO process will find many valuable insights.

“It is a discussion that is particularly important for those just starting their journey, or those looking to evaluate their current progress.”

The Resources Safety and Health Matters series features in-depth discussions with industry experts about safety and health in the Queensland resources industry.

The first video in the series featured Professor Alex Haslam from The University of Queensland's School of Psychology and Susan Johnston from The University of Queensland's Sustainable Minerals Institute discussing the relationship between high reliability organisations and leadership.
